Executive Summary

This vulnerability is an incorrect access control issue in the getDeviceInfo function of TOTOLINK T6 firmware version 4.1.5cu.748_B20211015. It allows unauthenticated attackers to retrieve device identification details by sending a specially crafted POST request to the endpoint /cgi-bin/cstecgi.cgi.

Detection Guidance

To detect this vulnerability, monitor network traffic for POST requests to /cgi-bin/cstecgi.cgi from unauthorized sources. Check device logs for unusual access to the getDeviceInfo function. Use tools like tcpdump or Wireshark to capture and analyze HTTP POST requests targeting this endpoint.

Impact Analysis

An attacker could exploit this to gather sensitive device information without authentication, potentially leading to further attacks like unauthorized access, device manipulation, or network compromise.

Mitigation Strategies

Immediately update the TOTOLINK T6 firmware to the latest version. Restrict access to the /cgi-bin/cstecgi.cgi endpoint via network firewall rules. Disable unnecessary services and ensure all device interfaces are not exposed to untrusted networks.
