Executive Summary

This vulnerability is an incorrect access control issue in the setScheduleCfg function of TOTOLINK T6 firmware version 4.1.5cu.748_B20211015. It allows unauthenticated attackers to remotely configure forced reboot tasks by sending a specially crafted POST request to the vulnerable endpoint /cgi-bin/cstecgi.cgi.

Detection Guidance

To detect this vulnerability, monitor network traffic for POST requests to /cgi-bin/cstecgi.cgi with parameters related to schedule configuration. Check system logs for unauthorized reboot task configurations.

Impact Analysis

This vulnerability could allow attackers to remotely reboot your TOTOLINK T6 device without authentication. This may cause network disruptions, loss of connectivity, or denial of service if rebooted repeatedly. Attackers could also potentially leverage this to maintain persistence or escalate attacks.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability allows unauthenticated attackers to configure forced reboot tasks via crafted POST requests, which could lead to unauthorized system modifications. Such unauthorized access may violate compliance requirements for data protection and system integrity under standards like GDPR and HIPAA by enabling potential data breaches or service disruptions.

Mitigation Strategies

Immediately update TOTOLINK T6 firmware to the latest version. Block external access to /cgi-bin/cstecgi.cgi via firewall rules. Disable unnecessary services and restrict network access to the device.
