Executive Summary

This vulnerability is an incorrect access control issue in the setUPnPCfg function of TOTOLINK T6 firmware version 4.1.5cu.748_B20211015. It allows unauthenticated attackers to change the UPnP service state by sending a specially crafted POST request to the endpoint /cgi-bin/cstecgi.cgi.

Detection Guidance

To detect this vulnerability, scan your network for devices running TOTOLINK T6 firmware version 4.1.5cu.748_B20211015. Check if UPnP service is enabled and verify if unauthenticated POST requests to /cgi-bin/cstecgi.cgi can modify UPnP settings.

Impact Analysis

An attacker could exploit this to enable or disable UPnP services on your device without authentication. This might allow them to manipulate network settings, expose internal services to the internet, or disrupt normal device operation.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability allows unauthenticated attackers to change UPnP service state via crafted POST requests, which could lead to unauthorized network configuration changes. Such access could potentially violate data protection requirements under GDPR or HIPAA by enabling unauthorized access to network services or exposing sensitive data.

Mitigation Strategies

Disable UPnP service on affected devices if not required. Block external access to /cgi-bin/cstecgi.cgi via firewall rules. Update to a patched firmware version once available from TOTOLINK.
