Executive Summary

This vulnerability is an incorrect access control issue in the setLedCfg function of TOTOLINK T6 firmware version 4.1.5cu.748_B20211015. It allows unauthenticated attackers to change the LED behavior by sending a specially crafted POST request to the vulnerable endpoint /cgi-bin/cstecgi.cgi.

Detection Guidance

To detect this vulnerability, monitor network traffic for POST requests sent to /cgi-bin/cstecgi.cgi with parameters targeting the setLedCfg function. Check system logs for unauthorized LED behavior changes.

Impact Analysis

This vulnerability could allow attackers to manipulate device LEDs, potentially indicating false system states or interfering with normal device operation. While not directly causing data breaches, it may be used as part of a larger attack chain to mislead users or administrators about system status.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability allows unauthenticated attackers to modify LED behavior via crafted POST requests, which does not directly impact GDPR or HIPAA compliance as it does not involve unauthorized access to personal or health data. However, if the device is part of a larger system handling sensitive data, improper access control could indirectly affect compliance by enabling further attacks.

Mitigation Strategies

Immediately update the TOTOLINK T6 firmware to the latest version. Block external access to /cgi-bin/cstecgi.cgi via firewall rules. Disable unnecessary services and restrict network access to the device.
