Executive Summary

This vulnerability is an incorrect access control issue in the setDdnsCfg function of TOTOLINK T6 firmware version 4.1.5cu.748_B20211015. It allows unauthenticated attackers to change the dynamic DNS configuration by sending a specially crafted POST request to the vulnerable endpoint /cgi-bin/cstecgi.cgi.

Detection Guidance

To detect this vulnerability, monitor network traffic for POST requests to /cgi-bin/cstecgi.cgi with parameters targeting setDdnsCfg. Check for unauthenticated access attempts or unexpected changes to dynamic DNS settings.

Impact Analysis

An attacker could exploit this to alter your device's dynamic DNS settings, potentially redirecting traffic or disrupting network services. This may lead to loss of control over your network configuration and expose you to further attacks.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability allows unauthenticated attackers to alter dynamic DNS state via crafted POST requests, which could lead to unauthorized changes in network configurations. Such unauthorized access may violate compliance requirements for data integrity and access control in standards like GDPR and HIPAA.

Mitigation Strategies

Immediately update the TOTOLINK T6 firmware to the latest version to address the incorrect access control in setDdnsCfg. If an update is not available, consider disabling dynamic DNS functionality or restricting access to the /cgi-bin/cstecgi.cgi endpoint via network firewall rules.
