Executive Summary

This vulnerability is an incorrect access control issue in the setDmzCfg function of TOTOLINK T6 firmware version 4.1.5cu.748_B20211015. It allows unauthenticated attackers to expose an internal host by sending a specially crafted POST request to the vulnerable endpoint /cgi-bin/cstecgi.cgi.

Detection Guidance

To detect this vulnerability, monitor network traffic for POST requests to /cgi-bin/cstecgi.cgi with parameters related to setDmzCfg. Check if unauthenticated requests are modifying DMZ configurations. Use tools like tcpdump or Wireshark to capture and analyze traffic to this endpoint.

Impact Analysis

An attacker could exploit this to gain unauthorized access to internal network resources, potentially leading to data breaches, network reconnaissance, or further attacks against internal systems.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability allows unauthenticated attackers to expose internal hosts via crafted POST requests, which could lead to unauthorized network access. Such exposure may violate data protection requirements under GDPR (e.g., Article 32 on security of processing) and HIPAA (e.g., safeguards for electronic protected health information) by enabling unauthorized access to sensitive systems or data.

Mitigation Strategies

Immediately update the TOTOLINK T6 firmware to the latest version if available. Disable remote administration features if not needed. Restrict access to the /cgi-bin/cstecgi.cgi endpoint via firewall rules. Monitor logs for suspicious POST requests to this path.
