Executive Summary

This vulnerability is an incorrect access control issue in the delParentalRules function of TOTOLINK T6 firmware version 4.1.5cu.748_B20211015. It allows unauthenticated attackers to remove parental-control rules by sending a specially crafted POST request to the vulnerable endpoint /cgi-bin/cstecgi.cgi.

Detection Guidance

Detecting this vulnerability requires checking if the affected TOTOLINK T6 device is exposed to crafted POST requests targeting /cgi-bin/cstecgi.cgi. Monitor network traffic for unusual POST requests to this endpoint. Verify if the device is running firmware version 4.1.5cu.748_B20211015 or similar.

Impact Analysis

This vulnerability could allow attackers to bypass parental controls on affected TOTOLINK T6 devices. This may enable unauthorized access to restricted content or network resources, potentially compromising network security and user safety.

Mitigation Strategies

Immediately update the TOTOLINK T6 firmware to the latest patched version. If no patch is available, restrict access to the device's web interface by blocking external connections to /cgi-bin/cstecgi.cgi. Disable parental-control features if not in use until a fix is applied.
