Executive Summary

This vulnerability is an incorrect access control issue in the killProcess function of TOTOLINK T6 firmware version 4.1.5cu.748_B20211015. It allows unauthenticated attackers to terminate critical services by sending a specially crafted POST request to the vulnerable endpoint /cgi-bin/cstecgi.cgi.

Detection Guidance

To detect this vulnerability, check if your TOTOLINK T6 device is running firmware version 4.1.5cu.748_B20211015. Verify if unauthenticated POST requests to /cgi-bin/cstecgi.cgi can terminate services. Use network scanning tools to inspect traffic to this endpoint for suspicious activity.

Impact Analysis

An attacker could exploit this to disrupt critical services running on the affected TOTOLINK T6 device. This may lead to loss of network connectivity, interrupted device functionality, or denial of service for connected systems relying on the device.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability allows unauthenticated attackers to terminate critical services via crafted POST requests, which could disrupt system availability. Such disruptions may violate compliance requirements for availability in standards like GDPR (Article 32) and HIPAA (Security Rule Β§164.308(a)(7)), as these require maintaining access to critical systems and data.

Mitigation Strategies

Immediately update TOTOLINK T6 firmware to the latest version. Disable remote access to the web interface if not required. Block external access to /cgi-bin/cstecgi.cgi via firewall rules. Monitor network traffic for suspicious POST requests to this endpoint.
