Executive Summary

This is a vulnerability in Oracle WebLogic Server where a low-privileged attacker with network access via HTTP can exploit it. Successful exploitation allows unauthorized creation, deletion, or modification of critical data, or causing a denial of service (DOS) by crashing the server repeatedly.

Detection Guidance

Detecting this vulnerability requires checking for vulnerable versions of Oracle WebLogic Server. Use commands like 'curl -v http://[target]:[port]/console' to check server headers for version info. Inspect logs for unusual HTTP requests or crashes. Ensure your WebLogic Server is updated to versions 12.2.1.4.0, 14.1.1.0.0, 14.1.2.0.0, or 15.1.1.0.0 or later.

Impact Analysis

It can lead to unauthorized data manipulation, loss of data integrity, or server downtime due to crashes. Attackers could steal, alter, or delete sensitive information, or disrupt services entirely.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability could violate compliance requirements like GDPR (data integrity/availability) or HIPAA (unauthorized data access). Organizations may face penalties for failing to protect sensitive data due to this flaw.

Mitigation Strategies

Apply the latest Oracle WebLogic Server patches immediately. Ensure network access controls restrict HTTP access to only trusted sources. Monitor for unusual data modifications or server crashes.
