Executive Summary

This vulnerability is in Plesk's database cloning process. It allows a low-privileged user like a customer or reseller to execute arbitrary code with the privileges of the database server administrator. This happens due to an incorrect cloning process in Plesk versions from 18.0.52 before 18.0.79.6 and 18.0.80.2.

Detection Guidance

Check Plesk version using command 'plesk version' on Linux or via Plesk interface on Windows. If version is between 18.0.52 and 18.0.79.5 or 18.0.80-18.0.80.1, the system is vulnerable.

Impact Analysis

If exploited, this vulnerability could allow an attacker with low privileges to gain full control over the database server. This could lead to unauthorized access to sensitive data, manipulation of databases, or further compromise of the server hosting Plesk.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability could lead to unauthorized access to personal or sensitive data, violating compliance requirements under GDPR, HIPAA, or other regulations. Organizations may face legal penalties, data breach notifications, and reputational damage if such an incident occurs.

Mitigation Strategies

Update Plesk to version 18.0.79.6 or 18.0.80.2 or later immediately. Remove database cloning privileges from low-privileged users until patched.
