Executive Summary

This is an authenticated command injection vulnerability in the GMS Command-Line Interface (CLI) version 9.5.1 (Build 9510.1044) and earlier. A low-privileged local user can exploit it to execute system commands with root privileges.

Detection Guidance

This vulnerability requires authenticated access to the GMS CLI. Check for unauthorized command execution attempts or unusual system commands run with root privileges by low-privileged users. Review CLI logs for suspicious activity or unexpected command sequences.

Impact Analysis

An attacker with low privileges could gain root access, allowing them to take full control of the system, install malware, steal data, or disrupt operations. This could lead to severe security breaches and unauthorized system modifications.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability could lead to unauthorized access and data breaches, violating GDPR (data protection) and HIPAA (health information privacy) requirements. Organizations may face legal penalties, fines, and reputational damage due to non-compliance.

Mitigation Strategies

Update GMS Command-Line Interface to the latest version to patch the vulnerability. Restrict local user privileges to minimize potential exploitation. Monitor system logs for unusual command execution activities.
