Executive Summary

The vulnerability in @better-auth/oauth-provider before version 1.7.0-beta.4 allows attackers to obtain access tokens for resource servers not covered by the original authorization grant. This happens because the access-token audience is not properly bound to the authorization grant during the OAuth flow.

Impact Analysis

Attackers could gain unauthorized access to resources by obtaining tokens for unrelated servers. This bypasses intended authorization boundaries, potentially leading to data breaches or unauthorized actions on behalf of legitimate users.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability could lead to unauthorized data access, violating principles of least privilege and data protection. It may result in non-compliance with GDPR (data protection), HIPAA (health data security), or other regulations requiring strict access controls and auditability.

Mitigation Strategies

Upgrade @better-auth/oauth-provider to version 1.7.0-beta.4 or later to address the audience binding issue in OAuth flows.
