Executive Summary

This vulnerability is an authorization weakness in JFrog Artifactory's handling of Composer repositories. It allows an authenticated user to read package metadata from repositories they are not authorized to access under specific conditions. This affects confidentiality as unauthorized data exposure may occur.

Detection Guidance

To detect this vulnerability, review Artifactory access logs for unauthorized package metadata access attempts. Check if authenticated users accessed repositories outside their permissions. Compare Artifactory versions against fixed releases and monitor for unusual read operations on Composer repositories.

Impact Analysis

If exploited, this vulnerability could allow attackers to access sensitive package metadata from restricted repositories. This may lead to information leaks, unauthorized access to proprietary or confidential data, or potential further attacks leveraging exposed metadata.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability could lead to unauthorized access to sensitive data, violating confidentiality requirements in GDPR and HIPAA. Organizations using affected Artifactory versions may face compliance breaches, potential fines, and reputational damage due to data exposure.

Mitigation Strategies

Update JFrog Artifactory to a fixed version to address the authorization weakness in Composer repository handling.
