Description

Vulnerability in the Portable Clusterware component of Oracle Database Server. Supported versions that are affected are 19.3-19.32, 21.3-21.23 and 23.4.0-23.26.3. Easily exploitable vulnerability allows unauthenticated attacker with access to the physical communication segment attached to the hardware where the Portable Clusterware executes to compromise Portable Clusterware. While the vulnerability is in Portable Clusterware, attacks may significantly impact additional products (scope change). Successful attacks of this vulnerability can result in takeover of Portable Clusterware. CVSS 3.1 Base Score 9.6 (Confidentiality, Integrity and Availability impacts). CVSS Vector: (CVSS:3.1/AV:A/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:C/C:H/I:H/A:H).

Executive Summary

This is a vulnerability in Oracle Database Server's Portable Clusterware component affecting versions 19.3-19.32, 21.3-21.23, and 23.4.0-23.26.3. An unauthenticated attacker with access to the physical network segment where the Clusterware runs can exploit it to take over the Clusterware. The attack has a high CVSS score of 9.6 due to its impact on confidentiality, integrity, and availability.

Detection Guidance

This vulnerability requires physical access to the network segment where Portable Clusterware operates, making remote detection difficult. Check Oracle Database Server versions 19.3-19.32, 21.3-21.23, or 23.4.0-23.26.3 for updates. Monitor network traffic for unauthorized access attempts to clusterware components.

Impact Analysis

An attacker could gain full control over the Portable Clusterware, potentially leading to unauthorized access, data breaches, or disruption of database services. Since attacks may impact additional products, the scope of compromise could extend beyond the Clusterware itself.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability could lead to unauthorized access or data breaches, which may violate GDPR's data protection requirements or HIPAA's security rules. Organizations using affected Oracle Database Server versions may face compliance violations, legal penalties, or reputational damage if exploited.

Mitigation Strategies

Apply the latest Oracle Critical Patch Update (CPU) for your Oracle Database Server version immediately. Ensure the Portable Clusterware is updated to a patched version (19.33+, 21.24+, or 23.27+). Restrict physical access to the network segment where Portable Clusterware operates to prevent unauthorized access.
