Executive Summary

This is a vulnerability in Oracle Database Server's Portable Clusterware component affecting versions 19.3-19.32, 21.3-21.23, and 23.4.0-23.26.3. An unauthenticated attacker with access to the physical network segment where the Clusterware runs can exploit it to take over the Clusterware. The attack has a high impact on confidentiality, integrity, and availability with a CVSS score of 9.6.

Detection Guidance

This vulnerability requires physical access to the network segment where Portable Clusterware operates, so standard network or system commands may not detect it. Focus on monitoring for unauthorized physical access or unusual activity in the clusterware environment.

Impact Analysis

If you use affected Oracle Database Server versions, an attacker could gain control of the Portable Clusterware, potentially leading to unauthorized access, data breaches, or system disruptions. The attack requires physical network access but can impact other products connected to the Clusterware.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability could lead to unauthorized access or data breaches, which may violate GDPR or HIPAA requirements for data protection and confidentiality. Organizations using affected Oracle versions should address this to maintain compliance.

Mitigation Strategies

Restrict physical access to the network segment where Portable Clusterware operates. Apply Oracle's security patches for affected versions immediately. Monitor for suspicious activity and ensure network segmentation is enforced.
