Executive Summary

This is a vulnerability in Oracle VM VirtualBox version 7.2.14. It allows a highly privileged attacker with local access to crash the software repeatedly or cause a denial of service (complete system hang). The attack requires logon to the system where VirtualBox runs but can impact other products due to scope change.

Detection Guidance

This CVE affects Oracle VM VirtualBox 7.2.14 and allows a high-privileged attacker to cause a denial of service. Detection involves checking the installed version of VirtualBox and monitoring for crashes or hangs. Use commands like 'VBoxManage --version' to verify the version and 'VBoxManage list vms' to inspect running VMs. Check system logs for VirtualBox-related errors or crashes.

Impact Analysis

If you use Oracle VM VirtualBox 7.2.14, an attacker with local access could crash your VirtualBox repeatedly or make it unusable. This disrupts virtual machine operations and may affect other dependent services or products.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability causes denial-of-service (DoS) conditions in Oracle VM VirtualBox, leading to system crashes or hangs. While it does not directly impact data confidentiality or integrity, prolonged unavailability of virtualized systems could affect compliance with GDPR or HIPAA by disrupting access to critical data or services.

Mitigation Strategies

Update Oracle VM VirtualBox to a version that is not affected by this vulnerability. Since the affected version is 7.2.14, check for and apply any available patches or newer versions from Oracle.
