Executive Summary

This is a denial-of-service (DoS) vulnerability in Oracle Helidon's Imperative Web Server component, specifically affecting version 1.4.20. An unauthenticated attacker can exploit it remotely via HTTP to crash the server repeatedly or cause it to hang, making it unavailable.

Detection Guidance

Since this is a denial-of-service vulnerability in Oracle Helidon 1.4.20 via HTTP, check for crashes or hangs in Helidon services. Monitor network traffic for unusual HTTP requests targeting Helidon endpoints. Verify Helidon version to confirm if 1.4.20 is in use.

Impact Analysis

If you use the vulnerable Helidon version, an attacker could disrupt your web services by causing crashes or hangs, leading to downtime and loss of availability for applications relying on Helidon.

Compliance Impact

This DoS vulnerability could lead to service unavailability, potentially violating availability requirements in GDPR (data access) and HIPAA (system reliability). Downtime may result in compliance failures if critical services are disrupted.

Mitigation Strategies

Upgrade Helidon to a version unaffected by this vulnerability. If upgrading is not immediately possible, restrict network access to the Imperative Web Server component via firewalls or network segmentation to limit exposure.
