Executive Summary

This is a vulnerability in Oracle Fusion Middleware's Helidon product, specifically in the Imperative Web Server component. It affects version 4.5.0 and allows unauthenticated attackers to access some data via HTTP requests. The impact is limited to unauthorized read access to a subset of accessible data.

Detection Guidance

Detecting this vulnerability requires checking for vulnerable versions of Oracle Helidon 4.5.0. Inspect your system for Helidon installations and verify the version. Use commands like 'find / -name *helidon* 2>/dev/null' to locate Helidon files or packages. Check application logs for HTTP requests targeting Helidon endpoints.

Impact Analysis

An attacker could exploit this to read sensitive data from the Helidon server without needing credentials. This may lead to exposure of confidential information, though the scope is limited to data the server can access.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability could lead to unauthorized data access, potentially violating GDPR (data protection) or HIPAA (health information privacy) if sensitive data is exposed. Organizations must assess the risk of data leakage and implement mitigations.

Mitigation Strategies

Upgrade Oracle Helidon to a version later than 4.5.0 immediately. If upgrading is not possible, apply network-level mitigations such as restricting HTTP access to Helidon endpoints using firewalls or disabling the Imperative Web Server component if unused. Monitor for unusual HTTP traffic patterns.
