Executive Summary

This vulnerability involves Ebyte device web management interfaces failing to enforce authentication consistently. An unauthenticated remote attacker could exploit this to access sensitive configuration details, alter device settings, or disrupt the device's availability.

Detection Guidance

Scan your network for Ebyte devices using tools like nmap to identify exposed web management interfaces. Check for open ports commonly used by these devices (e.g., 80, 443, 8080). Access the web interface and verify if authentication is required before allowing administrative actions. If no authentication is enforced, the device is vulnerable.

Impact Analysis

An attacker could gain control over the device, leading to unauthorized access to sensitive data, modification of critical settings, or causing the device to malfunction, potentially resulting in operational disruptions or data breaches.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability could lead to unauthorized access or disclosure of sensitive data, violating compliance requirements such as GDPR or HIPAA, which mandate strict access controls and data protection measures.

Mitigation Strategies

Isolate vulnerable Ebyte devices from untrusted networks by placing them behind firewalls or in a DMZ. Disable remote access to the web management interface if not required. Update the device firmware to the latest version if patches are available. Implement network segmentation to limit exposure of administrative interfaces.
