Executive Summary

This vulnerability affects Oracle Fusion Middleware's Helidon product, specifically version 4.5.0. It allows an unauthenticated attacker to remotely access and compromise the Imperative Web Server component via HTTP. Exploitation requires the victim to interact with a malicious request, and successful attacks can lead to unauthorized data access or modification.

Detection Guidance

Detection of CVE-2026-73898 requires checking for vulnerable versions of Oracle Helidon 4.5.0. Inspect installed Helidon packages using commands like 'java -jar helidon.jar --version' or package managers such as 'dpkg -l | grep helidon' or 'rpm -qa | grep helidon' on Linux systems. Monitor network traffic for HTTP requests targeting Helidon services.

Impact Analysis

An attacker could read or alter some data accessible through Helidon without authentication. This could lead to data breaches, unauthorized changes, or further attacks on connected systems. The impact depends on the data processed by Helidon in your environment.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability allows unauthorized read and limited write access to data in Helidon, which could lead to exposure of sensitive information. This may impact compliance with GDPR (data confidentiality requirements) and HIPAA (protected health information safeguards) if exploited.

Mitigation Strategies

Upgrade Helidon to a version unaffected by this vulnerability. If upgrading is not immediately possible, restrict network access to the Imperative Web Server component via firewalls or network segmentation. Monitor Oracle's security advisories for patches or workarounds.
