Executive Summary

This is a vulnerability in Oracle Fusion Middleware's Helidon product, specifically in the Imperative Web Server component. It affects version 4.5.3 and allows unauthenticated attackers to exploit it via HTTP network access. The flaw enables unauthorized data manipulation, data theft, and partial denial of service attacks on Helidon.

Detection Guidance

Detecting this vulnerability requires checking for vulnerable versions of Oracle Helidon 4.5.3. Inspect installed Helidon packages using commands like 'java -jar helidon.jar --version' or checking package managers (e.g., 'dpkg -l | grep helidon' on Debian). Monitor network traffic for HTTP requests targeting Helidon services. Ensure firewalls restrict unauthorized access to Helidon ports (default 8080/8443).

Impact Analysis

An attacker could create, delete, or modify critical data in Helidon, read some data without authorization, or cause a partial system outage. This could disrupt services relying on Helidon and compromise sensitive information.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability could lead to unauthorized data access or modification, violating GDPR's data protection requirements and HIPAA's security rules for protected health information. Non-compliance risks include legal penalties and reputational damage.

Mitigation Strategies

Immediately upgrade Helidon to a version unaffected by this vulnerability. If upgrading is not possible, restrict network access to the Imperative Web Server component via firewall rules or disable the service if not in use.
