Executive Summary

This is a vulnerability in Oracle Fusion Middleware's Helidon product, specifically in the Imperative Web Server component. It affects version 4.5.3 and allows unauthenticated attackers to exploit it via HTTP network access. Successful exploitation can lead to unauthorized data access, modification, or deletion, as well as partial denial of service.

Detection Guidance

Detecting this vulnerability requires checking if your system is running Oracle Helidon version 4.5.3. Use commands like 'java -jar helidon.jar --version' or check application logs for Helidon framework version. Network scanning tools like Nmap can identify Helidon services on HTTP ports.

Impact Analysis

An attacker could read, modify, or delete some data in Helidon, disrupt service availability, or cause partial system outages. Since it requires network access, external threats are the primary concern.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability could impact compliance with GDPR and HIPAA by allowing unauthorized access to sensitive data, potentially leading to data breaches. Unauthorized read access and data manipulation may violate confidentiality and integrity requirements under these regulations.

Mitigation Strategies

Immediately upgrade Helidon to a patched version above 4.5.3. If upgrading is not possible, restrict network access to Helidon services via firewalls or disable HTTP interfaces. Monitor for unusual activity and apply Oracle's security patches as soon as available.
