Executive Summary

This vulnerability is in Red Hat Quay's exported logs feature. An unauthenticated attacker with a valid file ID can download exported action logs without proper authorization. File IDs can be intercepted from plaintext email or webhook callbacks, leading to information disclosure.

Detection Guidance

Detecting this vulnerability requires monitoring for unauthorized access to exported logs. Check Quay's access logs for unusual download requests of action logs, especially from unrecognized IP addresses or during unexpected times. Inspect network traffic for plaintext email or webhook callbacks that might expose file IDs.

Impact Analysis

This vulnerability may expose sensitive data such as usernames, email addresses, IP addresses, and action-specific metadata. Attackers could use this information for further attacks or identity theft.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability could lead to non-compliance with GDPR and HIPAA due to unauthorized access and disclosure of personal and sensitive data. Organizations may face legal penalties and reputational damage.

Mitigation Strategies

Disable the exported logs feature in Red Hat Quay if not required. Ensure all file ID transmissions are encrypted, such as using HTTPS for webhooks and encrypted emails. Review and restrict access to exported logs to authenticated users only. Monitor logs for any signs of exploitation.
