Executive Summary

This is an OS command injection vulnerability in the API endpoint of Datiphy Data Management Center versions 8.3.0 through 8.5.1. An authenticated administrator can exploit this to execute arbitrary operating system commands with root privileges.

Detection Guidance

Detecting this vulnerability requires checking for OS command injection in the Datiphy Data Management Center API endpoint. Monitor logs for unusual command execution patterns, especially from authenticated admin accounts. Inspect network traffic for suspicious API requests containing shell metacharacters or commands.

Impact Analysis

An attacker with admin access could take full control of the server running Datiphy Data Management Center, install malware, steal sensitive data, or disrupt operations. This could lead to data breaches, system outages, or unauthorized access to other connected systems.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability could lead to unauthorized access and data breaches, violating GDPR's data protection requirements and HIPAA's security rules. Organizations may face fines, legal penalties, and reputational damage for failing to protect sensitive data.

Mitigation Strategies

Immediately update Datiphy Data Management Center to a version beyond v8.5.1. Disable or restrict access to the vulnerable API endpoint if an update is not immediately available. Implement network segmentation to limit exposure of the API to trusted systems only.
