Executive Summary

This vulnerability in the Eventin WordPress plugin before version 4.1.19 allows unauthenticated users to exploit a guest checkout token to mark their own unpaid orders as completed. This results in the system issuing a valid paid ticket without any actual payment being made.

Detection Guidance

To detect this vulnerability, check if your Eventin WordPress plugin version is below 4.1.19. You can do this by running the command 'wp plugin list' in your WordPress installation directory if using WP-CLI, or by checking the plugin version in the WordPress admin panel under Plugins.

Impact Analysis

If you use the Eventin plugin, an attacker could create an order, mark it as paid without payment, and receive a ticket. This could lead to financial loss, event disruptions, or reputational damage if exploited on a large scale.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability could lead to unauthorized access to paid services without payment, potentially violating data protection principles under GDPR and HIPAA. Unpaid orders marked as completed may expose user data without proper authorization, risking non-compliance with consent and payment processing requirements.

Mitigation Strategies

Update the Eventin WordPress plugin to version 4.1.19 or later to address the vulnerability.
