Executive Summary

This is a server-side request forgery (SSRF) vulnerability in WatchGuard Dimension FTP Server Test configuration. An authenticated privileged attacker can exploit it to enumerate exposed network services on adjacent network systems. This allows internal network discovery, host enumeration, and mapping of internal infrastructure without direct access.

Detection Guidance

To detect this SSRF vulnerability in WatchGuard Dimension FTP Server Test configuration, check if your system is running a vulnerable version (less than 2.3.1). Use commands like 'show version' or check the admin interface for the Dimension version. Monitor network traffic for unusual internal service enumeration attempts.

Impact Analysis

The impact includes discovering internal network services, identifying live IP addresses, mapping infrastructure through timing analysis, and gathering intelligence for further attacks like lateral movement. Attackers could use this to plan more sophisticated exploits against your systems.

Compliance Impact

This SSRF vulnerability could potentially impact compliance with GDPR and HIPAA by enabling unauthorized network reconnaissance. An attacker could enumerate internal services, identify live IP addresses, and map infrastructure, which may violate data protection requirements for network security controls. GDPR requires appropriate technical measures to ensure data security, while HIPAA mandates safeguards against unauthorized network access.

Mitigation Strategies

Immediately upgrade WatchGuard Dimension to version 2.3.1 or later to patch the SSRF vulnerability. Ensure only authenticated privileged users have access to the FTP Server Test configuration. Review network logs for signs of exploitation attempts.
