Executive Summary

This vulnerability involves improper input validation in the NTP Footer feature of Google Chrome on Windows versions before 152.0.7977.65. A remote attacker who had already compromised the renderer process could exploit this to bypass web origin policy by using a specially crafted HTML page.

Detection Guidance

This vulnerability is specific to Google Chrome versions prior to 152.0.7977.65 on Windows. Detection involves checking the installed Chrome version. Use the command 'chrome.exe --version' in Command Prompt to verify. If the version is below 152.0.7977.65, the system is vulnerable.

Impact Analysis

If you are using Google Chrome on Windows prior to version 152.0.7977.65, an attacker who gains control of the renderer process could potentially bypass security restrictions, allowing them to interact with or access data from different websites than intended.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability does not directly affect compliance with GDPR, HIPAA, or similar standards as it involves improper input validation in a web browser component, not data handling or privacy violations.

Mitigation Strategies

Update Google Chrome to version 152.0.7977.65 or later to address the vulnerability.
