CWE ID Description
CWE-416 The product reuses or references memory after it has been freed. At some point afterward, the memory may be allocated again and saved in another pointer, while the original pointer references a location somewhere within the new allocation. Any operations using the original pointer are no longer valid because the memory "belongs" to the code that operates on the new pointer.

Executive Summary

This vulnerability is a use-after-free issue in the Audio component of Google Chrome on Android. It allows a remote attacker who has already compromised the renderer process to execute arbitrary code outside the Chrome sandbox by tricking a user into visiting a specially crafted HTML page.

Detection Guidance

This vulnerability is specific to Google Chrome on Android prior to version 152.0.7977.65. Detection involves checking the installed Chrome version. If your version is below 152.0.7977.65, the system is vulnerable. Use the command 'dumpsys package com.android.chrome | grep versionCode' on Android to check the version.

Impact Analysis

If exploited, this vulnerability could allow an attacker to run malicious code on your device, potentially stealing data, installing malware, or taking control of your system. Since it bypasses Chrome's sandbox, it poses a higher risk than typical browser vulnerabilities.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability does not directly affect compliance with GDPR, HIPAA, or other standards as it is a technical flaw in Google Chrome's Audio component. However, if exploited, it could lead to unauthorized code execution, potentially compromising user data and violating privacy regulations like GDPR or HIPAA depending on the context of use.

Mitigation Strategies

Update Google Chrome on Android to version 152.0.7977.65 or later to address the use after free vulnerability in Audio.
