Executive Summary

rclone before v1.75.0 leaks full Go stack traces in RC API error responses when panics occur. Attackers can trigger panics to expose internal file paths, module versions, goroutine states, and memory addresses.

Detection Guidance

Check rclone version with 'rclone version' to see if it is below 1.75.0. Monitor RC API error responses for verbose stack traces containing internal paths or memory details. Use network traffic inspection tools to detect unusual RC API error messages.

Impact Analysis

This vulnerability allows attackers with high privileges to gather sensitive internal system details. This information could help them exploit other vulnerabilities by revealing architecture, dependencies, and memory layout.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability may lead to non-compliance with GDPR or HIPAA due to potential exposure of sensitive file paths, memory addresses, and internal system details. Leaking such information could violate data protection requirements for confidentiality and security controls.

Mitigation Strategies

Upgrade rclone to version 1.75.0 or later immediately. Disable or restrict access to the RC API if not required. Review and tighten API authentication and authorization controls to limit exposure.
