Executive Summary

LibreNMS’s Virtualization Discovery module has a command line injection flaw. An authenticated admin user can run arbitrary code on the server hosting LibreNMS.

Detection Guidance

Since this vulnerability requires an authenticated admin user to exploit, detection should focus on monitoring for unusual command execution or unauthorized changes in LibreNMS. Check logs for suspicious activity in the Virtualization Discovery module and review any recent admin actions.

Impact Analysis

An attacker with admin access could execute malicious commands on the server, potentially leading to data theft, system compromise, or unauthorized access to other systems.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability could lead to unauthorized access or data breaches, violating GDPR and HIPAA requirements for data protection and access controls.

Mitigation Strategies

Immediately restrict admin access to trusted users only and review all admin accounts for unauthorized changes. Update LibreNMS to the latest patched version if available. Monitor system logs for signs of exploitation and consider disabling the Virtualization Discovery module until a fix is applied.
