Executive Summary

Komodo through version 2.3.2 has a vulnerability where internal resource identifiers are exposed and audit entries are written before permission checks in the /execute and /execute/{variant} handlers. Authenticated users can guess resource names to obtain internal identifiers and insert fraudulent audit log entries that misrepresent privileged operations.

Impact Analysis

This vulnerability allows authenticated users to access internal resource identifiers and create fake audit logs. This could lead to unauthorized access to sensitive operations, misleading security records, and potential data breaches or compliance violations.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability could impact compliance by allowing unauthorized actions to be logged as legitimate, undermining audit trails required by GDPR and HIPAA. Fraudulent audit entries may lead to incorrect compliance reporting and potential legal or regulatory penalties.

Mitigation Strategies

Update Komodo to the latest version beyond 2.3.2 to address the permission check and audit entry issues. Review audit logs for suspicious entries and restrict authenticated user access to sensitive operations.
