Executive Summary

This is an authenticated command injection vulnerability in D-Link DAP-2610 devices running firmware up to version 2.06B08r099. The flaw exists in the web interface at the /index.xgi endpoint. An attacker with valid login credentials can manipulate certain parameters to execute arbitrary system commands on the device.

Impact Analysis

An attacker could gain full control over the affected D-Link device, allowing them to modify settings, steal data, or use the device as a pivot point to attack other systems on the network. This could lead to unauthorized access, data breaches, or disruption of network services.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability could lead to unauthorized access and data exfiltration, violating confidentiality requirements in GDPR and HIPAA. Organizations using affected devices may face compliance violations, potential fines, and reputational damage due to compromised sensitive data.

Mitigation Strategies

Immediately update the D-Link DAP-2610 firmware to the latest version beyond 2.06B08r099. Disable remote or authenticated access to the web interface if not required. Monitor network traffic for suspicious commands sent to the /index.xgi endpoint.
