Description

In Anjvision YSSD‑RTMP‑H5 firmware version 3.3.2.4, both the local and cloud update mechanisms apply new firmware without any cryptographic verification, relying only on basic hashing. This design allows an attacker who can reach the update routine to introduce untrusted firmware images that the device will accept as valid.

Executive Summary

This vulnerability exists in Anjvision YSSD-RTMP-H5 firmware version 3.3.2.4. The issue is that both local and cloud update mechanisms do not verify firmware authenticity using cryptographic methods. Instead, they rely only on basic hashing, which is insufficient. An attacker who can access the update routine can inject untrusted firmware images that the device will accept as valid.

Impact Analysis

This vulnerability allows an attacker to replace the device's firmware with malicious code. This could lead to unauthorized access, data theft, or control over the device. If the device is part of a larger system, the attacker might compromise connected networks or services.

Mitigation Strategies

Disable automatic firmware updates if possible and manually verify firmware integrity before installation. Ensure the device is isolated from untrusted networks to prevent unauthorized update attempts.
