Executive Summary

OpenClaw Slack versions before 2026.8.1 fail to enforce sender allowlists in multi-person direct messages. This allows disallowed participants to trigger Slack agents and access tools or data granted to those agents by bypassing configured sender policies.

Detection Guidance

Check the version of the @openclaw/slack npm package in use. If it is below 2026.8.1, the system is vulnerable. Run: npm list @openclaw/slack to verify the installed version.

Impact Analysis

A disallowed participant in a group DM could trigger an agent, potentially gaining access to tools and data already granted to that agent. The impact depends on the agent's tool policy and channel configuration.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability could potentially violate compliance with standards like GDPR and HIPAA by allowing unauthorized access to sensitive data through bypassed sender allowlists in Slack group DMs. Untrusted participants could trigger agents and access tools or data granted to those agents, risking unauthorized disclosure or modification of protected information.

Mitigation Strategies

Upgrade the @openclaw/slack package to version 2026.8.1 or later immediately. Avoid adding tool-enabled agents to multi-person direct messages with untrusted participants until patched.
