Description

OpenClaw versions before 2026.7.1 contain a sandbox bypass vulnerability in the browser tool that allows sandboxed sessions to access paired node browser actions despite allowHostControl=false configuration. Attackers with control over sandboxed agent input can select a paired node and perform host browser operations, inspecting or manipulating the connected browser profile and its authenticated state.

Executive Summary

CVE-2026-100589 is a sandbox bypass vulnerability in OpenClaw versions before 2026.7.1. It allows sandboxed sessions to access paired node browser actions even when the allowHostControl configuration is set to false. Attackers controlling sandboxed agent input can select a paired node and perform host browser operations, potentially inspecting or manipulating the connected browser profile and its authenticated state.

Detection Guidance

To detect this vulnerability, check the version of OpenClaw installed on your system. If you are running a version before 2026.7.1, your system is potentially vulnerable. Run the command 'npm list openclaw' or check the version in your package.json file to verify the installed version.

Impact Analysis

This vulnerability can lead to unauthorized access to browser profiles and authenticated sessions on paired nodes. Attackers may inspect or manipulate sensitive data, perform actions on behalf of users, or compromise confidentiality and integrity of browser sessions. The high CVSS scores (8.7 v4.0, 8.3 v3.1) indicate significant risk.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability could potentially violate compliance with GDPR and HIPAA by enabling unauthorized access to authenticated browser profiles and sensitive data. Attackers exploiting the sandbox bypass may inspect or manipulate browser sessions, risking exposure of personal or protected health information.

Mitigation Strategies

Immediately update OpenClaw to version 2026.7.1 or later. Before upgrading, remove any browser tools and paired-node targets from sandboxed agents configured with host control disabled. This will prevent potential exploitation until the update is applied.
