Description

A security flaw has been discovered in dbgate up to 7.3.1. This impacts the function zipJsonLinesData of the file packages/api/src/utility/zipJsonLinesData.js of the component Create Connection Endpoint. Performing a manipulation of the argument filePath results in path traversal. Remote exploitation of the attack is possible. The exploit has been released to the public and may be used for attacks. PR #1530 / commit 5f99b4d82 (7.2.5) hardened other export endpoints with checkSecureExportFilePath but omitted this endpoint. The vendor was contacted early about this disclosure but did not respond in any way.

Executive Summary

CVE-2026-101068 is a path traversal vulnerability in DbGate versions up to 7.3.1. It affects the zipJsonLinesData function in the Create Connection Endpoint. The flaw allows attackers to manipulate the filePath argument to write files to arbitrary locations on the system by bypassing path validation. This can lead to overwriting critical files or system corruption.

Detection Guidance

Check for unusual file writes in system directories or application folders. Monitor network traffic for requests to the /config/create-connections-and-settings-zip endpoint with suspicious filePath parameters. Look for files named poc_config.zip or similar in /tmp or other writable locations.

Impact Analysis

This vulnerability allows remote attackers to write arbitrary files to the filesystem without authentication. Potential impacts include denial of service, system corruption, or overwriting sensitive files like /etc/passwd or application binaries. It affects default anonymous deployments and has a public exploit available.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability could potentially impact compliance with GDPR and HIPAA by enabling unauthorized file writes. Attackers could overwrite critical system files or configuration files, leading to data integrity issues or unauthorized access. For GDPR, this may violate integrity and confidentiality principles. For HIPAA, it could compromise protected health information integrity. The lack of authentication requirements exacerbates this risk.

Mitigation Strategies

Upgrade DbGate to a version beyond 7.3.1 if available. If not, restrict access to the /config/create-connections-and-settings-zip endpoint and implement strict input validation for filePath parameters. Disable anonymous deployments if possible.
