Joomla Extension - ordasoft.com - Reflected Cross-Site Scripting in Vehicle Manager (Free) < 6.5.8 - The public vehicle-detail page (task=view) echoes the title request parameter directly into a double-quoted HTML attribute with no output encoding of any kind. Executive Summary

This is a reflected Cross-Site Scripting (XSS) vulnerability in the Vehicle Manager Joomla extension by ordasoft.com. It affects versions before 6.5.8. The issue occurs on the public vehicle-detail page where the title parameter is directly echoed into an HTML attribute without proper encoding. This allows attackers to inject malicious scripts by including a double-quote character in the parameter, which closes the attribute and enables arbitrary markup injection.

Detection Guidance

Check if the Vehicle Manager (Free) extension version is below 6.5.8 by inspecting the Joomla admin panel or files. Look for reflected XSS by sending a test payload like /index.php?option=com_vehiclemanager&task=view&title=%22%3E%3Cscript%3Ealert(1)%3C/script%3E in the vehicle-detail page URL and observe if script executes.

Impact Analysis

An attacker could exploit this to execute malicious scripts in a victim's browser when they visit a crafted URL. This could lead to session hijacking, stealing cookies, defacement of the website, or delivering malware. Users with administrative access could be targeted to gain full control of the Joomla site.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability could lead to unauthorized access to user data, violating GDPR's data protection principles and HIPAA's security requirements for protected health information. If exploited, it may result in data breaches, leading to legal penalties, reputational damage, and loss of trust.

Mitigation Strategies

Update the Vehicle Manager (Free) extension to version 6.5.8 or later immediately. If an update is unavailable, disable or uninstall the extension until a patch is released. Monitor Joomla security advisories for further updates.
