Description

Kiteworks Email Protection Gateway before version 9.5.0 is vulnerable to Server-Side Request Forgery (SSRF). A server-side request forgery (SSRF) weakness in Kiteworks Email Protection Gateway could allow a remote, unauthenticated attacker to induce the gateway to issue crafted requests to internal or otherwise unintended network destinations. The requests are triggered while the gateway retrieves an issuer certificate in an inbound message. Depending on the services reachable from the gateway, this could disclose sensitive internal information or disrupt gateway operation.

Executive Summary

Kiteworks Email Protection Gateway before version 9.5.0 has a Server-Side Request Forgery (SSRF) vulnerability. This allows a remote attacker to trick the gateway into making crafted requests to internal or unintended network destinations while retrieving an issuer certificate from an inbound message. The attacker does not need authentication.

Impact Analysis

An attacker could exploit this to access sensitive internal information if the gateway can reach internal services. It may also disrupt gateway operations by sending malicious requests to critical systems.

Mitigation Strategies

Immediately update Kiteworks Email Protection Gateway to version 9.5.0 or later to address the SSRF vulnerability. Monitor network traffic for unusual outbound requests from the gateway and restrict internal network access to the gateway to minimize potential impact.
