Description

Dozzle versions before 11.1.2 fail to sanitize container display names when building ZIP archive entry names in the log download endpoint. Attackers who can label containers can use path traversal sequences to write files outside the extraction directory when users download and extract logs.

Executive Summary

Dozzle versions before 11.1.2 do not properly sanitize container display names when creating ZIP archives for log downloads. This allows attackers who can label containers to use path traversal sequences to write files outside the intended extraction directory.

Detection Guidance

Check Dozzle versions before 11.1.2 by running: docker inspect <dozzle_container> | grep Image. Look for container labels containing path traversal sequences like ../ in logs or file paths.

Impact Analysis

If you download and extract logs from a vulnerable Dozzle instance, an attacker could place malicious files outside the extraction directory. This could lead to unauthorized file writes, potential system compromise, or further attacks on your environment.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability could violate compliance requirements by allowing unauthorized file access or modification. GDPR and HIPAA mandate strict data protection and integrity controls; such a flaw may lead to data breaches or unauthorized system changes, risking non-compliance.

Mitigation Strategies

Upgrade Dozzle to version 11.1.2 or later immediately. Restrict container labeling permissions to trusted users only. Monitor for unauthorized file writes in extraction directories.
