Executive Summary

This vulnerability involves an FTP client accepting any address sent in a server's 227 reply during an IPv4 PASV command. The client only validates the parse and non-zero values, allowing a malicious server to redirect the client to any address.

Impact Analysis

An attacker could exploit this to trick users into connecting to a malicious server instead of the intended one. This could lead to data theft, unauthorized access, or further attacks like man-in-the-middle.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability could lead to data breaches, violating GDPR's data protection requirements or HIPAA's security rules for protected health information. Organizations may face penalties for failing to protect data transfers.

Mitigation Strategies

Update your FTP client to a patched version that validates the server's address in the 227 reply. Avoid using FTP clients that do not perform strict validation of the PASV response.
