CWE ID Description
CWE-89 The product constructs all or part of an SQL command using externally-influenced input from an upstream component, but it does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes special elements that could modify the intended SQL command when it is sent to a downstream component. Without sufficient removal or quoting of SQL syntax in user-controllable inputs, the generated SQL query can cause those inputs to be interpreted as SQL instead of ordinary user data.
CWE-74 The product constructs all or part of a command, data structure, or record using externally-influenced input from an upstream component, but it does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes special elements that could modify how it is parsed or interpreted when it is sent to a downstream component.

Executive Summary

This vulnerability is an unauthenticated SQL injection flaw in the Restaurant-Management-System. It affects multiple admin endpoints like delete1.php and allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary SQL commands without authentication by manipulating the ID parameter in GET requests. The issue stems from direct interpolation of user input into SQL queries without sanitization or prepared statements.

Detection Guidance

Check for suspicious GET requests targeting admin endpoints like delete1.php with parameters such as id=1' OR '1'='1. Monitor database logs for unusual DELETE, UPDATE, or SELECT queries. Use tools like SQLmap to test for SQL injection by sending crafted payloads to vulnerable endpoints.

Impact Analysis

Attackers can exploit this to delete or modify critical data such as menu items, orders, user accounts, or tables. They could also update order statuses or potentially escalate to remote code execution. Since no authentication is required, any user with access to the system could be affected by data loss or corruption.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability could lead to violations of GDPR and HIPAA due to unauthorized data access, modification, or deletion. GDPR requires protection of personal data, while HIPAA mandates safeguards for health-related information. Exploitation could result in data breaches, unauthorized disclosures, or loss of integrity, triggering compliance penalties and legal consequences.

Mitigation Strategies

Immediately restrict access to admin endpoints by implementing authentication checks. Sanitize all user inputs, especially the id parameter, using prepared statements or input validation. Temporarily disable vulnerable endpoints if patches are unavailable. Monitor network traffic for exploitation attempts.
