Arbitrary Code Execution in IBM Langflow OSS

Vulnerability report for CVE-2026-12944, including description, CVSS score, EPSS score, affected products, exploitability, helpful resources, and attack-flow context.

Publication date: 2026-09-14

Last updated on: 2026-09-16

Assigner: IBM Corporation

Description

IBM Langflow OSS 1.0.0 through 1.10.0 can allow attackers to execute arbitrary Python code with root privileges (UID=0) on the Langflow server by submitting components containing socket or urllib imports. This enables: (1) AWS credential theft via IMDSv1 SSRF with full IAM role permissions, (2) arbitrary file exfiltration from the container filesystem, and (3) lateral movement to internal services (PostgreSQL, Redis) within the Docker network. The scanner incorrectly returns "validated": true, providing a false security signal.

Executive Summary

IBM Langflow OSS versions 1.0.0 through 1.10.0 allow attackers to execute arbitrary Python code with root privileges on the server by submitting components with socket or urllib imports. This leads to unauthorized code execution with full system access.

Detection Guidance

Detecting this vulnerability requires inspecting Langflow server components for socket or urllib imports in submitted code. Check server logs for unusual Python code execution patterns or network connections to external services. Review Docker container processes for unexpected privilege escalations or network activity.

Impact Analysis

Attackers can steal AWS credentials via IMDSv1 SSRF, exfiltrate files from the container, or move laterally to internal services like PostgreSQL or Redis. The vulnerability grants full IAM role permissions and root-level access to the server.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability likely violates compliance requirements due to unauthorized access, data exfiltration risks, and potential exposure of sensitive data. It undermines security controls for GDPR (data protection) and HIPAA (health data privacy).

Mitigation Strategies

Immediately upgrade Langflow to a patched version beyond 1.10.0. Disable IMDSv1 if used for AWS metadata access. Restrict container privileges by running as non-root user. Implement network segmentation to limit lateral movement. Monitor for unauthorized file access or network exfiltration attempts.
