Executive Summary

IBM MQ versions 9.1.0.0 through 10.0.0.0 are vulnerable to XML External Entity (XXE) injection. This occurs when processing XML data, allowing a remote attacker to read sensitive files or consume excessive memory resources.

Impact Analysis

An attacker could exploit this to access confidential data stored on the server or cause denial-of-service by consuming memory resources, potentially disrupting IBM MQ operations.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability could lead to unauthorized data exposure, violating GDPR's data protection requirements or HIPAA's safeguards for protected health information, potentially resulting in legal penalties or compliance failures.

Mitigation Strategies

Apply the latest IBM MQ patches or updates to versions beyond the affected ranges (9.1.0.37 LTS, 9.2.0.43 LTS, 9.3.0.41 LTS, 9.4.0.25 LTS, or 10.0.0.0). Disable XML processing features if not required and restrict network access to MQ servers.
