Description

The WP Maps – Google Maps,OpenStreetMap,Mapbox,Store Locator,Listing,Directory & Filters plugin for WordPress is vulnerable to Local File Inclusion in all versions up to, and including, 4.9.8 via the 'page' parameter parameter. This makes it possible for authenticated attackers, with subscriber-level access and above, to include and execute arbitrary .php files on the server, allowing the execution of any PHP code in those files. This can be used to bypass access controls, obtain sensitive data, or achieve code execution in cases where .php file types can be uploaded and included.

Executive Summary

This vulnerability is a Local File Inclusion (LFI) flaw in the WP Maps plugin for WordPress. It allows authenticated attackers with subscriber-level access or higher to include and execute arbitrary PHP files on the server by manipulating the 'page' parameter. This can lead to code execution, data theft, or bypassing access controls.

Detection Guidance

Check WordPress installations for the WP Maps plugin versions up to 4.9.8. Inspect server logs for unusual file inclusion attempts via the 'page' parameter. Look for unauthorized PHP file executions or suspicious file paths in requests.

Impact Analysis

If you use this WordPress plugin, attackers could exploit it to run malicious code on your server, steal sensitive data, or gain unauthorized access. Even with basic user permissions, they could execute PHP files, potentially compromising your entire WordPress installation and website security.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability could lead to data breaches, exposing personal or sensitive data. For GDPR, it risks unauthorized data access, potentially violating confidentiality and integrity requirements. For HIPAA, it may compromise protected health information, leading to compliance violations and legal consequences.

Mitigation Strategies

Update the WP Maps plugin to the latest version beyond 4.9.8 immediately. Restrict subscriber-level access to prevent unauthorized file inclusion. Monitor server logs for suspicious activity and remove any unauthorized PHP files.
