Executive Summary

The Timetics WordPress plugin through version 1.0.61 has an Insecure Direct Object Reference (IDOR) vulnerability. This allows users with a custom 'staff' role to modify, disable, or take over appointments belonging to other staff members by exploiting weak access controls in the plugin's REST API.

Detection Guidance

Check if the Timetics WordPress plugin version is 1.0.61 or lower. Inspect REST API calls for appointment modifications by users with the staff role. Look for unauthorized changes to appointments not belonging to the modifying user.

Impact Analysis

Attackers with the 'staff' role could alter or delete appointments not assigned to them, leading to scheduling conflicts, data loss, or unauthorized changes. This could disrupt business operations or cause reputational damage if appointments are mishandled.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability may violate data integrity and access control requirements under GDPR and HIPAA, as unauthorized users could modify or access sensitive appointment data. Compliance could be compromised if proper safeguards are not in place.

Mitigation Strategies

Update the Timetics WordPress plugin to the latest version if available. Implement stricter access controls to enforce per-object ownership. Review and restrict permissions for the staff role to prevent unauthorized appointment modifications.
