Executive Summary

IBM i 7.6, 7.5, 7.4, and 7.3 are vulnerable to a flaw where improper validation of the WebSocket origin allows remote attackers to obtain sensitive information. This occurs because the system fails to correctly verify the origin of WebSocket connections.

Impact Analysis

This vulnerability could allow attackers to access sensitive data transmitted over WebSocket connections. If exploited, it may lead to unauthorized disclosure of confidential information, potentially affecting data integrity and confidentiality.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability could lead to non-compliance with GDPR and HIPAA by exposing sensitive personal or health data. GDPR requires protection of personal data, while HIPAA mandates safeguards for protected health information. A breach could result in legal penalties and reputational damage.

Mitigation Strategies

Apply IBM i PTFs or updates to address the improper WebSocket origin validation. Monitor IBM's security advisories for patches. Restrict WebSocket connections to trusted origins if possible.
