Memory Disclosure in IBM PowerVM Hypervisor

Vulnerability report for CVE-2026-19492, including description, CVSS score, EPSS score, affected products, exploitability, helpful resources, and attack-flow context.

Description

IBM PowerVM Hypervisor FW1120.00 through FW1120.01, FW1110.00 through FW1110.31, and FW1060.00 through FW1060.81 is affected by a vulnerability in a hypervisor call interface. An attacker with root access to a guest partition can read a limited amount of hypervisor memory, potentially exposing sensitive data belonging to the hypervisor or other guest partitions hosted on the same system, resulting in a confidentiality impact. The attacker has no control over which memory contents are returned. This vulnerability is of particular concern in multi-tenant environments where guests may run arbitrary OS images.

Executive Summary

This vulnerability affects IBM PowerVM Hypervisor firmware versions FW1120.00 through FW1120.01, FW1110.00 through FW1110.31, and FW1060.00 through FW1060.81. An attacker with root access to a guest partition can read a limited amount of hypervisor memory, potentially exposing sensitive data from the hypervisor or other guest partitions on the same system. The attacker cannot control which memory contents are accessed.

Detection Guidance

Detection primarily involves checking the firmware version of the PowerVM Hypervisor. Compare installed versions against affected ranges (FW1120.00-FW1120.01, FW1110.00-FW1110.31, FW1060.00-FW1060.81). Use IBM tools like the Hardware Management Console (HMC) or IVM to query firmware levels. No specific commands are provided in the resources.

Impact Analysis

If you are using an affected IBM PowerVM Hypervisor firmware version in a multi-tenant environment, an attacker with root access to a guest partition could read sensitive hypervisor or other guest partition data. This could lead to unauthorized access to confidential information, though the attacker has no control over what data is exposed.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability could lead to unauthorized access to sensitive data, which may violate compliance requirements under GDPR, HIPAA, or other regulations that mandate strict data protection. Exposure of hypervisor or guest partition data could result in regulatory penalties or loss of compliance certifications.

Mitigation Strategies

Install the latest firmware updates provided by IBM (e.g., FW1110.32, FW1120.02, FW1060.82) to remediate the issue. Regularly check for updates from IBM and apply them promptly. No workarounds are available.
