Executive Summary

This vulnerability is in NVIDIA GPU Display Driver for Windows and Linux. It involves incorrect permission assignment for a critical resource in a secure microcontroller component. An attacker with privileged local access can exploit this to modify protected memory that should be restricted, potentially leading to code execution and privilege escalation.

Detection Guidance

Detection requires checking NVIDIA GPU Display Driver versions. Use commands like 'nvidia-smi' on Linux or check driver properties in Windows Device Manager. Compare versions against NVIDIA's security advisory for CVE-2026-47518.

Impact Analysis

If exploited, this vulnerability could allow an attacker to execute arbitrary code or gain elevated privileges on your system. This might lead to unauthorized access, data theft, or further compromise of your device, especially if the attacker already has local access.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability allows local attackers with privileged access to modify protected memory, potentially leading to code execution and privilege escalation. Such unauthorized access could compromise data confidentiality and integrity, which may violate compliance requirements under GDPR (data protection) and HIPAA (health data security) if exploited in systems handling regulated data.

Mitigation Strategies

Update NVIDIA GPU Display Driver to the latest patched version immediately. Restrict local privileged access to systems with vulnerable drivers. Monitor for unusual memory modifications or privilege escalation attempts.
