CWE ID Description
CWE-416 The product reuses or references memory after it has been freed. At some point afterward, the memory may be allocated again and saved in another pointer, while the original pointer references a location somewhere within the new allocation. Any operations using the original pointer are no longer valid because the memory "belongs" to the code that operates on the new pointer.

Executive Summary

This vulnerability is a use-after-free flaw in NVIDIA GPU Display Driver's kernel mode layer. It allows a user to exploit a freed memory access issue, potentially leading to unauthorized code execution, system crashes, privilege escalation, sensitive data exposure, or data tampering.

Detection Guidance

The provided CVE data does not include specific detection methods or commands for identifying this vulnerability on a network or system. NVIDIA GPU Display Driver vulnerabilities typically require monitoring for unusual GPU-related crashes, driver errors, or system instability. Check NVIDIA's security advisories for updates and use system logs to detect anomalies.

Impact Analysis

If exploited, this vulnerability could allow attackers to run malicious code on your system, gain higher privileges, crash your device, steal sensitive information, or alter stored data. It primarily affects systems using NVIDIA GPU drivers.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability could lead to information disclosure and data tampering, which may violate GDPR's data protection requirements and HIPAA's safeguards for protected health information. The potential for privilege escalation and code execution further increases compliance risks by allowing unauthorized access to sensitive data.

Mitigation Strategies

Update NVIDIA GPU Display Driver to the latest version provided by NVIDIA to patch the use-after-free vulnerability in the kernel mode layer.
