Command Execution in Acer NitroSense via MQTT WebSocket

Vulnerability report for CVE-2026-50227, including description, CVSS score, EPSS score, affected products, exploitability, helpful resources, and attack-flow context.

Publication date: 2026-09-23

Last updated on: 2026-09-23

Assigner: Acer

Description

An unauthenticated local attacker can connect to the MQTT broker over its localhost WebSocket endpoint in Acer NitroSense software (versions up to and including 5.2.62). This allows the attacker to invoke exposed ddsc RPC functions, including child_process.execSync(), resulting in arbitrary command execution in the application context.

CWE ID Description
CWE-78 The product constructs all or part of an OS command using externally-influenced input from an upstream component, but it does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes special elements that could modify the intended OS command when it is sent to a downstream component.
CWE-306 The product does not perform any authentication for functionality that requires a provable user identity or consumes a significant amount of resources.

Executive Summary

This vulnerability allows an unauthenticated local attacker to connect to the MQTT broker via the localhost WebSocket endpoint in Acer NitroSense software (versions up to 5.2.62). The attacker can then invoke exposed ddsc RPC functions, including child_process.execSync(), which enables arbitrary command execution within the application context.

Detection Guidance

Check if Acer NitroSense software versions up to 5.2.62 are installed. Look for active WebSocket connections on localhost, particularly targeting the MQTT broker endpoint. Monitor for unexpected command execution processes spawned by the application.

Impact Analysis

An attacker could exploit this to execute arbitrary commands on your system with the privileges of the Acer NitroSense application. This could lead to unauthorized data access, system compromise, or further attacks within your local environment.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability could lead to unauthorized access or data breaches, which may violate compliance requirements under GDPR, HIPAA, or other regulations. Organizations must address this to maintain data protection and security standards.

Mitigation Strategies

Update Acer NitroSense software to the latest version beyond 5.2.62. Disable or restrict access to the localhost WebSocket endpoint of the MQTT broker. Implement network segmentation to isolate the MQTT broker from untrusted local users.
